Netflix reveals trailer and release date for 'How to Get to Heaven From Belfast'

The new Netflix series 'How to Get to Heaven From Belfast,' created by Lisa McGee of 'Derry Girls' fame, has released its trailer and announced a February 12 premiere. This eight-episode comedy thriller centers on three lifelong friends navigating a mysterious death from their past. The show promises a mix of dark humor and adventure across Ireland.

Lisa McGee, known for her hit series 'Derry Girls,' which first aired on Channel 4 in 2018 and gained international acclaim on Netflix, returns with 'How to Get to Heaven From Belfast.' The series follows three women in their late 30s: the clever and chaotic TV writer Saoirse, played by Roísín Gallagher; the glamorous but stressed mother of three, Robyn, portrayed by Sinéad Keenan; and the dependable carer Dara, enacted by Caoilfhionn Dunne.

The plot kicks off with an email informing the friends of the death of their estranged fourth childhood companion. Eerie occurrences at her wake propel them into a 'dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond,' as they unravel truths from their shared history. The official synopsis captures the essence: “Now in their late 30s, but still as close as ever, these three friends are about to embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives... A show about friendship, memory and what happens when life doesn’t turn out quite like you’d expected.”

McGee wrote and created the show, with direction from Michael Lennox, who also helmed episodes of 'Derry Girls.' Production comes from Brian J. Falconer, under Hat Trick Productions. Executive producers include McGee, Lennox, Caroline Leddy, Liz Lewin, Jimmy Mulville, and Jessica Sharkey. The trailer highlights the blend of suspense and comedy that defined McGee's previous work, setting expectations for another character-driven narrative exploring personal growth amid unexpected twists.

This release builds on the success of 'Derry Girls,' which boosted careers like that of Nicola Coughlan from 'Bridgerton.' Viewers can watch the trailer on Netflix ahead of the February 12 debut.
