New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared in a surprise pre-recorded video during Djo's sold-out concert at Forest Hills Stadium on July 17. The mayor replaced the usual voicemail message from Charlie Heaton in the song 'Charlie's Garden'.
Djo, the musical project of Stranger Things actor Joe Keery, performed the headline show in Queens with support from Australian psych-rock band Pond. Mamdani greeted Keery and congratulated him on the sold-out venue during the performance.
The crowd reacted strongly to the mayor's appearance, which made parts of the message hard to hear. Charlie Heaton was reportedly present at the show.
'Charlie's Garden' is from Djo's third studio album The Crux, released in April 2025. Keery has said the voicemail on the studio version was not real and was created as a tribute to his friendship with Heaton.
