Ombudsman says Padilla ignored summons in Dela Rosa probe

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Sen. Robin Padilla has ignored a summons to respond to an obstruction of justice complaint. The complaint involves allegations that Padilla helped Sen. Ronald dela Rosa evade an ICC arrest warrant in May.

Remulla stated at a press conference on Friday that the deadline for Padilla to file a counter-affidavit had passed. He noted that the resolution would proceed without Padilla's input.

The complaint was filed on June 3 by Tindig Pilipinas. It alleges that Padilla, former Senate president Alan Peter Cayetano and former Senate sergeant-at-arms Mao Aplasca obstructed justice during dela Rosa's departure from Senate premises on May 14.

Cayetano submitted his counter-affidavit on time. Aplasca received an extension until July 23. Remulla confirmed the process will continue regardless.
