OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Health to US users

OpenAI has started rolling out its ChatGPT Health feature to users in the United States who are 18 years or older. The update allows the chatbot to reference personal health data in conversations.

The feature connects to Apple Health via HealthKit and providers including Kaiser Permanente and One Medical. Users can also input details on conditions, medications and family history.

OpenAI states that connected health information is not used to train models or target ads. Accounts can be disconnected at any time, and the chatbot asks permission before using the data.

The rollout follows beta testing that began in January. OpenAI reports more than 300 million weekly health queries to ChatGPT, up from 40 million at the start of the year. The system uses GPT-5.6 models and is not intended to provide diagnoses or treatment plans.

ChatGPT Health is available on web and iOS for free and paid personal accounts. The company notes it is not HIPAA-compliant.
