Örbyhus Castle, owned by the same family for 120 years, is set to be sold for 400 million kronor. SVT Uppsala was given a tour with the manager.
The castle, which includes 3,311 hectares of land and 478 protected trees, has a long history. The towers were built in the 1450s and Erik XIV was imprisoned there in the 1500s.
Manager Martin Mattsson has worked at the castle for four years. He says unexpected finds are common, such as several kilos of dynamite in an old chemical storage last year.
The castle is currently owned by descendants of Eugéne von Rosen. The owners have decided to sell, but Mattsson believes a new owner will care for the property well.
– If you buy a castle, I think you want to store and manage it properly, he says.
