Padres sign right-hander Ty Adcock to one-year deal

The San Diego Padres added depth to their bullpen by signing right-hander Ty Adcock to a one-year Major League contract. The 28-year-old pitcher brings recent strong performances from the minors and winter leagues. This move comes as the team manages injuries and potential roster shifts.

On Thursday afternoon, the San Diego Padres announced that they have agreed to a one-year Major League deal with right-hander Ty Adcock, bolstering an already strong bullpen projected as one of the best in baseball.

Adcock, 28, has limited big-league experience, with 18 appearances over the past three seasons for the Mariners and Mets, posting a 5.48 ERA in 23 innings. He spent most of the last two years at Triple-A, including a 4.66 ERA last season with the Mets' affiliate in Syracuse. More recently, Adcock impressed in the Dominican Winter League with Estrellas Orientales, allowing just two earned runs over nine innings while striking out 15 batters without issuing a walk.

The Padres, who had six openings on their 40-man roster before the signing (now five), valued Adcock's pitching arsenal, which includes a fastball averaging 97 mph, a cutter in the low-to-mid 90s, and a high-80s slider. With less than a year of service time, he remains a couple of years from arbitration eligibility and under team control for the foreseeable future.

This addition provides valuable depth amid uncertainties. Right-hander Jason Adam may not return from quadriceps tendon surgery until after Opening Day. There is also ongoing discussion about potentially shifting relievers to the rotation, with Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon, and David Morgan as possibilities. Adcock's signing ensures the bullpen has options regardless of those decisions.
