A 51-year-old man died on Tuesday in a fire at a Paris Habitat building in Paris’s 6th arrondissement. The blaze broke out around 5 p.m. on rue Saint-Placide.
The mayor of the 6th arrondissement, Jean-Pierre Lecoq, announced the victim’s death on Tuesday evening. He thanked firefighters, police and emergency services for their response.
The fire started on the fourth floor of a nine-story residential building at the corner of rues Dupin and Saint-Placide. About 100 firefighters and 20 vehicles were deployed to bring the blaze under control.
One person was found dead in the rubble. The victim lived alone and no other casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
