Paula Badosa has expressed reluctance to see a daughter follow her into professional tennis. The comments came after her first-round win at the Iasi Open.
Badosa defeated Anhelina Kalinina 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round of the Iasi Open in Romania. She then addressed questions about motherhood and the sport.
"It is a very hard road," she said. "I’ve gone through very difficult times to get where I am, and all that leaves many sequels." Badosa added that she would not make a daughter play tennis, though she might consider the path for herself again.
The 28-year-old recently ended a two-year title drought by winning the Bastad Nordea Open without dropping a set. That result lifted her ranking to No. 115.
She is scheduled to face Alevtina Ibragimova in the second round. A deep run could return her to the top 100 and secure direct entry to the US Open main draw.
