Peacock develops 'Bride Wars' TV series with Emma Roberts

A TV adaptation of the 2009 film 'Bride Wars' is in development at Peacock, starring Emma Roberts as a wedding planner. The series reimagines the story of rival planners clashing over a wedding in North Carolina. It has not yet received an official order.

The project, described as a loose reimagining of the original movie, features Emma Roberts in the lead role as a big-city wedding planner who moves to North Carolina and faces off against a local counterpart. According to the logline, "As the two women battle to plan the same wedding, their rivalry quickly escalates into a larger clash over friendship, community, and, ultimately, love."

New Regency is the lead studio, with 20th Television and UCP as co-studios. Executive producers include Roberts and her Belletrist team, alongside Alexandra Milchan's Crescent Line. Emmy-winning writer Sascha Rothchild, known for 'GLOW,' 'XO Kitty,' and 'The Baby-Sitters Club,' is penning the script and serving as an executive producer. Additional producers are Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency; Karah Preiss and Matt Matruski for Belletrist; and Martin Salgo for Crescent Line.

The original 'Bride Wars' film, directed by Gary Winick and released by 20th Century Fox, starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway as childhood friends turned rivals after booking the same wedding venue and date. It grossed $115 million worldwide and was remade in China in 2015.

Roberts is currently filming 'Hal' opposite Alexander Ludwig and executive producing 'Tell Me Lies.' The new series remains in early development without a greenlight.
