Newly released police video captures former WWE executive Vince McMahon crashing his Bentley at over 100 mph while being pursued by a state trooper on the Merritt Parkway last summer. McMahon explained he was rushing to his granddaughter's birthday party. No serious injuries occurred in the incident.
On July 24, 2025, near the old Exit 41 on the northbound Merritt Parkway in Westport, Connecticut, 80-year-old Vince McMahon was driving his 2024 Bentley Continental GT at speeds of 100 to 115 mph when Connecticut State Police Detective Maxwell Robins attempted to pull him over. Video footage from Robins' dash cam and body camera shows McMahon's vehicle slamming into the rear of a northbound BMW, then careening into a wooden median guardrail. Debris from the crash flew over the center median and struck a southbound 2020 Ford Fusion.
McMahon continued driving northbound despite the collision, with his airbag deployed, before pulling over. As Robins approached, McMahon could be heard cursing at himself. When asked why he was driving so fast, McMahon replied it was because of his granddaughter's birthday. He added that he had not driven the car in a while, describing it as 'too fast,' and claimed he thought the trooper's lights 'just looked normal' and was not trying to outrun the officer.
Robins questioned if McMahon had been on his phone or experiencing a medical issue, to which McMahon denied both. 'You weren’t paying attention,' Robins said on the body camera video. 'It was right in front of you, you went straight at it at 100 mph.'
McMahon received a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and following too closely resulting in an accident. He was released at the scene on a $500 bond. In October 2025, a judge granted him an accelerated rehabilitation program for one year, requiring a $1,000 charitable contribution and proper licensing and insurance for driving. The charges are set to be dismissed on October 15, 2026, if he avoids further trouble.
McMahon's attorney, Mark Sherman, stated, 'Vince’s primary concern during this case was for the other drivers and is appreciative that the court saw this as more of an accident than a crime that needed to be prosecuted.' No one was seriously injured, though all three vehicles were towed from the scene. McMahon was picked up by someone else afterward, and Robins wished his granddaughter a happy birthday.
The crash occurred on the same morning that professional wrestler Hulk Hogan died of a heart attack at age 71, according to the state police report. McMahon resigned from WWE in 2022 amid a lawsuit by former employee Janet Grant alleging sexual misconduct; he has denied the allegations, and the suit remains pending.
