PXG signs Aldrich Potgieter to its tour staff

Golf equipment company PXG has bolstered its roster by signing reigning PGA Tour rookie of the year Aldrich Potgieter. The South African joins after a standout debut season, switching from Titleist. This move follows PXG's recent addition of PGA Tour rookie Marco Penge.

PXG has made a significant addition to its tour staff with the signing of Aldrich Potgieter, the 2025 PGA Tour rookie of the year. Previously aligned with Titleist, Potgieter cited the company's equipment and support as key reasons for the switch. "Last season showed me what it takes to compete out here," Potgieter said in a press release. "I’m focused on getting better every week, and PXG gives me the tools and support to do that. The equipment performs, the process is straightforward, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for."

Potgieter impressed in his rookie year by leading the PGA Tour in driving distance with an average of 325 yards off the tee. This signing comes shortly after PXG announced Marco Penge, a PGA Tour rookie who topped the DP World Tour in Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee with a 319-yard average drive. With Potgieter on board, PXG now represents the last two PGA Tour rookie of the year winners, including 2024 honoree Eric Cole. Penge is considered a leading contender for the 2026 award.

PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons praised Potgieter's qualities. "Aldrich didn’t just have a good rookie year – he set a standard," Parsons said. "He’s disciplined, powerful, and knows what he wants out of his equipment. That clarity and competitiveness make him a great fit for PXG as he takes the next step in his career."

Potgieter will use PXG's Lightning Tour driver, Secret Weapon mini driver, GEN8 X driving iron, GEN8 0311 T 4-iron, 0317 ST 5-9 irons, Sugar Daddy 46 and 60 wedges, and Brandon Tour putter. Notably, he remains listed on Titleist's website as a golf ball player, suggesting a partial transition. This appears to be the final major equipment signing before the 2026 season, positioning PXG to potentially claim three consecutive rookie of the year winners on its staff. The company is clearly investing in young talent to establish long-term relevance in professional golf.

In the first five events of the 2026 PGA Tour season, a mix of established and new drivers has helped secure victories for top players. One putter has claimed 80% of the wins, bucking the zero-torque trend prevalent on tour. Here's a breakdown of the equipment used by the champions so far.

Scottie Scheffler secured his 20th PGA Tour victory at the American Express, relying on a blend of familiar and new equipment. The win marks a strong start to his season, highlighted by a return to trusted TaylorMade woods. Before turning 30, he joins Tiger Woods as the only player with 20 PGA Tour wins.

Ludvig Aberg became the first golfer to benefit from the PGA Tour's updated driver replacement rule during the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. On the 18th hole, he cracked his driver's face after hitting out of bounds and quickly swapped it using a spare head from his bag. This 2026 change simplifies repairs that previously required retrieving equipment from the locker room.

Chris Gotterup, a golfer from New Jersey, has won two of the first four PGA Tour events of the 2026 season. These victories mark his third and fourth on the tour since May 2025, surpassed only by Scottie Scheffler. Gotterup, who is currently competing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, continues his strong performance.

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has made a significant equipment change by switching to a TaylorMade Spider Tour X L-neck putter for the WM Phoenix Open. The move comes after struggling with his putting during his return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. Koepka had used a Scotty Cameron Teryllium blade for over a decade before deciding on the mallet-style putter.

At the WM Phoenix Open, five non-exempt players earned entry into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational through the Aon Swing 5 program. Pierceson Coody, Ryo Hisatsune, Jake Knapp, Matt McCarty, and Patrick Rodgers topped the standings based on FedExCup points from the season's opening events. Chris Gotterup's playoff victory over Hideki Matsuyama highlighted the tournament at TPC Scottsdale.
