Ángeles Díaz, a 32-year-old architect, was trapped in a 19-story building in Altamira after the double earthquake. Her husband received a distress call before losing contact. Volunteers and soldiers work at the Petunia building, where 10 people are presumed trapped.
Spanish authorities confirmed the deaths of five Spaniards, including Isabel Jara. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the number of missing Spaniards to 119 and noted that 14 remain under rubble. A Venezuelan driver for the Spanish embassy also died with his family.
Canary Islands Government President Fernando Clavijo announced three days of official mourning and aid measures. Canary executive sources expressed condolences to families and held hope for the remaining missing persons.
