The 2026 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships begin this weekend in Narvik, Norway, showcasing the next generation of alpine skiers. The nine-day event from March 7 to 15 features disciplines including downhill, super-G, slalom, giant slalom, team combined, and team parallel. Narvik hosts the 45th edition, marking its second time staging the competition.
The championships, first held in 1982 in Auron, France, bring together top young alpine skiers under 20 from around the world. Situated above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, Narvik Ski Resort provides a challenging venue that will also host the senior Alpine World Ski Championships in 2029. This junior event serves as valuable preparation for athletes and organizers alike.
Among the competitors are several rising talents with recent successes. Sweden's Cornelia Öhlund, who debuted at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics in slalom, earned two golds in four medals across prior junior worlds, including slalom gold at the 2025 edition in Tarvisio. Switzerland's Sue Piller finished sixth in giant slalom at the Spindleruv Mlyn World Cup, while compatriot Dania Allenbach won giant slalom at the European Cup in Oberjoch, Germany.
Italy fields promising athletes like Anna Trocker, who placed 10th in women's team combined at the Olympics alongside Nicol Delago, and 18-year-old Giorgia Collomb, who won giant slalom at Tarvisio 2025 and contributed to Italy's team victory at the 2025 World Championships in Saalbach. The United States' Elisabeth Bocock returns after double bronze in 2025. France's Flavio Vitale defends his 2025 giant slalom title, and Great Britain's Carrick-Smith brothers—Luca, Freddy, and Zak—compete, with Luca securing slalom bronze last year.
Narvik previously hosted in 2020, when Austria's Magdalena Egger won three individual golds before the event was curtailed by Covid-19.
