A sinkhole at the train tunnel works in Montcada i Reixac swallowed a large crane and forced closure of lines R2, R2 Nord and R11. The exact spot is in the Vallbona neighborhood within Barcelona municipality.
Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility José Santana visited the site and stated that neither nearby tracks nor homes were affected. Adif is filling the hole with concrete and will leave the crane in place because moving it would create new risks.
Santana said circulation on the R2 and R11 will resume next week, though he gave no specific day. Until then, passengers must transfer via the R4 or buses. The causes of the sinkhole remain unknown.
