Spencer Tunick gathers hundreds of naked participants in Las Palmas

American photographer Spencer Tunick directed an art installation on Sunday with between 400 and 500 naked and painted people in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's Santa Ana Square.

The action, titled Gran Spectrum, formed part of the Culture & Business Pride 2026 festival. The participants, painted in eleven colors of the Progress Pride flag, occupied the square in front of the Canary Islands Cathedral following Tunick's instructions from the terrace of the Casas Consistoriales.

Tunick stated at the end of the session that the collective needs support and that any place accepting naked bodies in harmony represents a step forward. The intervention took place hours after an attack during the Pride March in Berlin.

The bishop of the Canary Islands, José Mazuelos, said he had no problem with the action. Participants such as Patricia Pardo de Donlebún highlighted the atmosphere of inclusion and love for the body.
