New Pittsburgh Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Crossman has decided against altering kicker Chris Boswell's established offseason routine. Boswell will continue to delay kicking until June to preserve his leg strength.
Crossman confirmed the decision in comments to reporters this week. He said Boswell's proven approach would stay unchanged despite other adjustments under the new coach. “There’s a great sliding scale in this world, and guys that are highly productive, things that they’ve done, if they’ve been highly productive, I’d be a knucklehead to change that,” Crossman said via a team transcript. Boswell has followed the same plan since at least 2023, when he and former coordinator Danny Smith set his start date for June 1. The Steelers also added Kansas kicker Laith Marjan to the offseason roster after the draft to handle training camp and preseason duties. Boswell described Crossman as an in-depth coach focused on technique and daily improvement. The team’s mandatory minicamp begins June 2.
