The Tax Agency has informed Judge José Luis Calama that it has opened inspections into José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, his wife Sonsoles Espinosa, his daughters and businessman Julio Martínez Martínez for fiscal years 2021 to 2024.
The inspection proceedings, opened in June 2026 by territorial delegations in Madrid and the Valencian Community, cover personal income tax, VAT, corporate tax, wealth tax and the temporary solidarity tax on large fortunes.
The National Court magistrate also issued an order on Friday requesting the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit to limit its reports to the facts under investigation and avoid including irrelevant personal information.
The Tax Agency is also examining linked companies such as Whathefav belonging to Zapatero's daughters and Idella Consulenza of Martínez, within the Plus Ultra case.
Hacienda has requested suspension of the inspections to prevent overlap with the criminal proceedings.
