That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime movie sets U.S. release for May 1

Crunchyroll has announced a U.S. theatrical release for the new anime film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea on May 1. The movie, already screening in Japan, follows the third season and features a new story by the original light novel writer Fuse. Alongside this, the franchise's fourth TV season will stream on Crunchyroll starting April 3.

The anime franchise That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, known as one of Crunchyroll's largest Isekai series, is expanding with both a new television season and a feature film. The fourth season of the TV anime is scheduled to premiere on Crunchyroll on April 3 as part of the Spring 2026 anime lineup. This season has been renewed for a five-cour run, with the first two cours airing back-to-back through the end of the year, followed by a break before the remaining three cours.

The new movie, titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, picks up after the events of the third season. It presents an original story penned by Fuse, the creator of the light novels. Directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi at studio Eightbit, which also handles the TV series, the film is currently playing in theaters across Japan.

For North American audiences, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures will distribute the movie theatrically in the United States and Canada on May 1. Screenings will offer Japanese audio with English subtitles, as well as an English dubbed version. A special event on April 20, under the Crunchyroll Anime Nights banner, will include a 10-minute sneak peek of the new film paired with a re-release of the previous movie, Scarlet Bond.

The series follows Rimuru, who has risen to become a Demon Lord leading the nation of Tempest, drawing increasing conflicts as its power grows. This dual release underscores the franchise's growing prominence in the Isekai genre.
