Sweden lost 3–4 to Czechia in the ice hockey World Championship after falling behind 0–3 after just 13 minutes. Despite several power-play goals and a strong second period, it was not enough for Tre Kronor.
The match in Fribourg began with a shock start for Sweden. Czechia took the lead 1–0 after just over three minutes and extended it to 3–0 after 13 minutes of play.
Tre Kronor responded with two quick power-play goals by Joel Persson and Simon Holmström before the first intermission. In the second period Oliver Ekman-Larsson reduced the deficit again on the power play, but a video-reviewed goal gave Czechia a 4–2 lead.
Sweden pushed for an equalizer in the final period but came up short. The loss is the team’s second in three World Championship matches and the next opponent is Slovenia on Wednesday.
