University of Venda approves Louis Trichardt campus expansion

The University of Venda in Limpopo has gained approval for its multi-purpose satellite campus in Louis Trichardt. The project, first announced a few years ago, will feature a business school, research centres, a convention centre and a boutique hotel. Officials expect it to generate nearly 2,000 jobs once complete.

The University of Venda (Univen) announced that its council has approved a feasibility study for the Makhado campus in Louis Trichardt, clearing the way for implementation of the long-planned satellite facility.

Spokesperson Dr Takalani Dzaga stated that the university has completed necessary processes over recent years, including the feasibility study. "The University of Venda wishes to assure members of the public that the development of the UNIVEN Makhado campus has not been delayed," Dzaga said. "Over the past few years, the university has been undertaking a series of important and necessary processes to ensure the successful establishment of the campus. This process includes, among other things, a comprehensive feasibility study as well as securing approvals from the university’s governance structures. We are pleased to announce that the feasibility study has been successfully concluded, and a report has been tabled for consideration by the council. It is worth stating that the feasibility study report has been approved by the University of Venda council."

The campus will include a business school, research centres, a convention centre and a boutique hotel, among other facilities. University officials project it will create nearly 2,000 jobs upon completion.

Univen first revealed plans for the satellite campus a few years ago, and the approval marks progress after governance reviews.
