US and Iran exchange strikes amid regional condemnations

The United States and Iran exchanged fresh military strikes on Sunday, deepening tensions despite efforts to preserve a ceasefire reached earlier this month.

The latest escalation began after the US military carried out additional strikes against Iranian coastal facilities overnight. The strikes targeted missile and drone storage sites as well as coastal radar installations.

US President Donald Trump accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire agreement. He said the United States had responded by striking Iranian military sites.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched missiles and drones at US military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait. Bahrain and Kuwait said their air defences intercepted the attacks and condemned them as violations of their sovereignty.

Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Oman, Lebanon, the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the attacks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi travelled to Baghdad for talks.
