Valle del Cauca assembly approves ordinance against political violence towards women

The Valle del Cauca Assembly approved an ordinance on April 28 to address political violence against women. The initiative, Ordinance Project No. 003, complies with Statutory Law 2453 of 2025 and includes prevention, attention, and monitoring measures. It positions the department as a national reference on the issue.

The Valle del Cauca Assembly approved the ordinance during a session in Cali on April 28, 2026. Presented as Ordinance Project No. 003, the measure responds to Statutory Law 2453 of 2025 and aims to curb a phenomenon limiting women's participation in power spaces.

"This ordinance is not symbolic; it is a direct response to violence that has tried to push women out of politics. Today, Valle del Cauca clearly states there is no room for harassment, delegitimization, or attacks against those exercising public leadership," said Deputy Lina Segura, the project rapporteur.

The ordinance includes attention routes, educational strategies, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure violence-free political participation, amid gaps in female representation and attacks such as misogynistic harassment.

"Today, Valle del Cauca becomes a pioneering department in systematically highlighting political violence against women," stated General Secretary Liza Rodríguez. Private Secretary Yurani Romero added: "The approval is just the starting point. What follows is enforcing this ordinance with concrete decisions."
