Veteran singer Suman Kalyanpur dies at 89

Veteran Indian playback singer Suman Kalyanpur died on Sunday evening at her Mumbai residence aged 89. Tributes have poured in from the music and political worlds.

Suman Kalyanpur was born on 28 January 1937 in Bhavani pur in undivided India now Bangladesh. She recorded more than 800 songs in Hindi Marathi and several other languages. Her popular tracks include Na Na Karte Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche and Tumne Pukara.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the country had lost a divine voice that enriched India's musical heritage for over six decades. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described her passing as the end of a golden chapter in music.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar said her death marked the end of a golden chapter in Indian classical and light music. Close sources said she died due to age-related issues.
