Vijay Sethupathi confirms new film with Mani Ratnam and Sai Pallavi

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has announced a reunion with director Mani Ratnam for an upcoming project, describing it as completely different from their previous work. Sai Pallavi will join the cast in her first on-screen collaboration with Sethupathi. Details on the genre and storyline remain undisclosed.

Vijay Sethupathi revealed the collaboration during an interview with a magazine, putting an end to recent speculation. The actor previously worked with Mani Ratnam on the 2018 action crime thriller Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Speaking about the new venture, Sethupathi stated, "I've worked with Mani Sir before, in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in 2018. This time, we will be doing something completely different."

Sethupathi emphasized his commitment to avoiding repetition in his roles. He explained that he prefers fresh storytelling over remakes and sequels, saying, "That Vijay Sethupathi, who entered the film industry seeking small roles, is still alive. I want to make sure he remains alive even if he is working with Mani Ratnam. When I came into the cinema, all I wanted to do was to stand in front of the camera and say my dialogue. Even today, I feel so alive when I'm in front of the camera."

The project marks Sai Pallavi's debut pairing with Sethupathi. While specifics about the supporting cast, genre, or plot are not yet available, the announcement highlights ongoing activity in South Indian cinema. Sethupathi recently appeared in the silent film Gandhi Talks, alongside Aditi Rao Hydari and Arvind Swamy. His upcoming projects include Pocket Novel, Train, Arasan, Jailer 2, and Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road. Mani Ratnam's most recent directorial effort was Thug Life, featuring Kamal Haasan.

Sai Pallavi has several films lined up, including Ek Din with Junaid Khan, an untitled project with Dhanush directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, and the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari's two-part epic Ramayana, opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
