A 23-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest by a stranger while celebrating her friend's birthday in Portland, Oregon. The attack occurred early Sunday morning and left the victim with serious injuries requiring multiple surgeries.
Kayla Harrell was outside a club in the 400 block of Northwest 6th Avenue around 1:45 a.m. when a woman approached and stabbed her, authorities said. She initially thought she had been punched but later learned she had been attacked with a weapon.
The suspect, identified as Achillia A. Palmer, 36, was detained by security guards at the scene and later arrested. Court records show Palmer faces charges including attempted murder, second-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. Police said the two did not know each other and described the incident as an unprovoked random attack.
Harrell underwent multiple surgeries and remains in stable condition, though she faces an extended recovery period. Portland Police Chief Bob Day said officers responded quickly after bystanders provided aid to the victim.
