Building on Elon Musk's February vision of Optimus as the first Von Neumann machine and his recent March 21 statement that Optimus+PV will be the first self-replicating probe in space, Tesla announced Terafab on March 22 as the next step toward becoming a galactic civilization.
Building on 2025's dominance with over 90% global market share, Chinese humanoid robots drew major attention at CES and China's Lunar New Year Gala in early 2026. Tesla's Optimus remains in limited production amid delays, with mass deployment eyed for 2027 or later. Analyst Lian Jye Su highlights China's manufacturing scale while noting U.S. software strengths in the intensifying competition.

Building on initial Megapack installations last month, Tesla's Cortex 2 AI datacenter at Giga Texas is advancing rapidly, with the first 250MW portion expected to activate in April. Key for Optimus robot development, the site features progress on Megapack and chiller installations, including temporary units for accelerated startup, as confirmed by Elon Musk.
Tesla stock has experienced rapid surges in the past, with over 30% rallies in under two months occurring 18 times, including in 2013 and 2024. Analysts at Trefis identify three key catalysts that could drive further gains in 2026: acceleration in energy storage deployment, initiation of Optimus production, and a shift of Full Self-Driving to recurring revenue. However, significant risks remain, including historical drawdowns and current high valuation.

Tesla has stopped production of its Model S and Model X vehicles to redirect factory capacity toward the Optimus humanoid robot program. The company is gearing up for limited sales and possible mass production of Optimus, while also planning an initial run of the Cybercab robotaxi. This shift accompanies growing legal and regulatory challenges related to the Cybercab name, Autopilot marketing, and full self-driving accident disclosures.
