Korean chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are ramping up memory production to meet surging demand from artificial intelligence (AI) servers. Industry analysts said on Sunday that production capacity is increasingly seen as a key determinant of competitiveness in the global semiconductor industry.

SK hynix topped the global dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) market in the third quarter of 2025. According to industry tracker Omdia, the company's market share stood at 34.1 percent, holding the top spot for three straight quarters despite Samsung Electronics narrowing the gap. Global DRAM sales surged 30 percent from the previous quarter to $40.3 billion.
