A Fábrica Brasil unveils scripted slate at Content Americas

A Fábrica Brasil, a Banijay Americas company, presented a diverse nine-title slate at Content Americas, emphasizing partnerships with Netflix and Globo. The lineup features psychological thrillers by novelist Raphael Montes and a new sitcom to succeed the long-running Vai Que Cola. Additional announcements include live experiences and joint ventures.

At Content Americas in Miami, A Fábrica Brasil highlighted its production strategy during a Banijay Americas panel led by CEO Ben Samek. The Rio-based company, in which Banijay acquired a majority stake in December 2022, has built success through hits like the comedy franchise Vai Que Cola, which has aired over 500 episodes in 14 years, and Netflix's Desperate Lies, a 17-episode melodrama that topped global non-English charts in 2024.

Key reveals included two psychological thrillers involving Raphael Montes, Brazil's prominent crime novelist and screenwriter. The Netflix feature A Estranha na Cama, directed by Esmir Filho and co-written with Janaína Tokitaka, is in production. It adapts Montes' upcoming novel about a couple covering up a death during an encounter arranged via a sex app, amid emerging blackmail. Montes' prior works include the 2020 Netflix series Good Morning, Verônica, HBO Max's Scars of Beauty, and Globoplay's Perfect Days, which Variety named among 2025's best international TV series.

For Globoplay, A Fábrica and Casa Montes are developing Uma Mulher no Escuro, based on a novel where survivor Victoria confronts her family's killer years after a home invasion. Another Netflix project, the scripted comedy As Crianças Estão de Volta, follows empty-nesters disrupted by returning adult children; it's written by Claudio Paiva and directed by Maurício Farias.

Comedy updates feature a new untitled Globo sitcom created by Marcelo Andrade and directed by Gigi Soares, filling the gap left by Vai Que Cola, whose final season airs in 2026. Galera F.C. returns for a second season, co-produced with Warner Bros. Discovery, exploring a soccer star's family priorities.

In film, Very Special Agents, an espionage spoof from a Paulo Gustavo screenplay, released on January 8. Upcoming movies include Mission: 171 and O Verão da Lata, inspired by a 1987-88 cannabis can wash-up event. Other news: a joint venture with Endemol Shine Brasil for microdramas, a new Master Chef Brazil, and the Luminescence live music experience debuting in Mexico and Brazil.

Luiz Noronha, A Fábrica's MD and CCO, noted of Galera F.C.: "It’s about soccer, but above all family." The slate underscores A Fábrica's push into scripted content with global appeal, leveraging Globo's sponsorship records and streaming successes.
