Addison Barger scheduled for right elbow surgery on Monday

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger will undergo right elbow surgery on Monday after a season hampered by multiple injuries.

Barger has dealt with elbow issues for a couple of years. The problem worsened in May after he made a 101.2 mph throw from right field.

Manager John Schneider said Friday that the 26-year-old will have the procedure performed by Dr. Keith Meister. The surgery could involve a full Tommy John reconstruction, which would require about nine months of recovery and push his return into the 2027 season. An internal brace option could shorten that timeline to around six months.

Barger appeared in just nine games this year and hit .045. He also suffered a left ankle injury and a back stress fracture. Schneider noted the loss of at-bats and development time for the player who had excelled in the 2025 World Series.

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg will miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow this week. The 27-year-old infielder received the news after a partial UCL tear failed to improve with conservative treatment.

Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal is making positive progress following surgery to remove a loose body from his elbow. The procedure took place on Wednesday, and the team reports an optimistic outlook for his return to the rotation.
