Alaa El-Zoheiry, chairperson of the Insurance Federation of Egypt, has been elected president of the African Insurance Organisation for the 2026-2027 term.

Alaa El-Zoheiry, chairperson of the Insurance Federation of Egypt, has been elected president of the African Insurance Organisation for the 2026-2027 term. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the AIO’s 52nd Conference and Annual General Assembly, hosted in Cairo from 5 to 9 June under the theme “Insurance as an Enabler of Economic Growth for All.” El-Zoheiry succeeds Ethiopia in the role. In his inaugural address he outlined priorities including expanding insurance inclusion, accelerating digital transformation, empowering youth and women, and strengthening institutional infrastructure. He highlighted plans for a comprehensive African insurance database, stronger engagement with InsurTech and FinTech firms, and the launch of an annual African insurance technology hackathon. He also proposed an annual AIO Awards Programme for research and innovation.
