Amazon Game Studios has announced that the Season 10: Nighthaven Update marks the final content release for its MMORPG New World: Aeternum. The decision comes after four years of updates and a recent console launch, with servers planned to operate through 2026. While new content stops, the game remains available for play with ongoing maintenance.
Background
New World: Aeternum, originally launched as New World in September 2021 on PC, places players on the fantasy island of Aeternum amid faction conflicts and colonial forces. The game expanded to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in October 2024, retitled as New World: Aeternum.
Announcement Details
In a blog post dated October 28, 2025, Amazon Game Studios stated that after 'four years of steady content updates and a major new console release,' continuing new content is 'no longer sustainable.' The Nighthaven Update, launched in early October 2025, is the last major addition. As a thank you to the community, both the Nighthaven update and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion are now free for all players on PC and consoles.
The studio emphasized that the game is not being sunsetted, meaning no immediate end of service. Servers are intended to remain operational through 2026, with at least six months' notice for any changes affecting playability. New World: Aeternum stays purchasable on all platforms, and in-game currency like Marks of Fortune can still be bought and used.
Ongoing Support
Operational updates will continue, including bug fixes and server merges to ensure smooth gameplay. World bosses, bonus weeks, and some seasonal events persist, though holiday events are discontinued. For PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, access remains available until further notice.
The blog post reflects on the community's role: 'Your feedback and passion have been instrumental in evolving Aeternum into the world it is today.' More details on the future will be shared in coming months.
