Human rights defenders confirmed that Roberto Baldo, an Argentine-Venezuelan entrepreneur, is the fourth Argentine detained in Venezuela since late 2024. His daughters, Camila and Paulina Baldo, expressed their anguish over the uncertainty of his release amid recent releases of political prisoners. Patricia Bullrich demanded their prompt freedom along with other compatriots.
Elisa Trotta, a Venezuelan-Argentine human rights defender and founder of the Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy, confirmed on Thursday the identity of another Argentine arbitrarily detained by the Chavista regime at the end of 2024. It is Roberto Baldo, of Argentine-Venezuelan nationality and a gastronomic sector worker, who along with his wife Montserrat Espinosa de Baldo, of Spanish-Venezuelan nationality, remains confined in different detention centers in Venezuela.
The couple's daughters, Camila and Paulina Baldo, spoke with TN Central from Caracas, where they are located. "The truth is we don't have much information; we just have to wait and see when they will be released," they expressed. They added: "We never imagined this situation. It was a tough year, with a lot of uncertainty, fear, and nerves. We want to see them out." They explained that their father is imprisoned "for doing a personal favor" and requested immediate release with guarantees to leave the country.
National Senator Patricia Bullrich, president of the La Libertad Avanza bloc in the Senate, assured on her social media that Baldo and his wife were "underreported." "As in any dictatorship, real information is hidden: people are detained without due process, human rights are violated, and the truth is covered up," she wrote. Bullrich insisted: "Today we learned about Roberto, another Argentine, who along with his wife are detained. We hope for their prompt release. And we continue insisting on Nahuel and Germán. We won't let up until they all return."
This case adds to those of gendarmes Nahuel Gallo and Germán Giuliani, detained in December 2024. Trotta highlighted that Baldo and his wife are part of more than a thousand innocents in the regime's dungeons. Rumors mention a possible fourth Argentine, Gustavo Gabriel Rivara Freyre, in El Helicoide prison, though it has not been officially confirmed by the Argentine government.
The confirmation occurs amid releases of political prisoners following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces and the interim assumption of Delcy Rodríguez, who has agreed to releases under international pressure.
