Applicants demand in-person repeat of UNAM exam over anomalies

UNAM applicants marched Monday in Ciudad Universitaria to demand an in-person repeat of the 2026 undergraduate entrance exam after irregularities were detected in the online test results.

Protesters gathered near Universidad Metro station and marched toward the Central Library chanting “no more cheating” and “in-person exam now”. They denounced possible mass fraud linked to Artificial Intelligence use.

Íker Gaytán, an 18-year-old applicant to Urbanism, said 99 correct answers were required this year versus 83 last year. He noted 23 applicants scored above 100, a sharp rise from three the previous cycle.

UNAM announced on July 24 the provisional suspension of enrollments until the 16-expert Technical Commission issues conclusions. Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas stated access will not be affected by illegal assistance and called for clarification of events.
