Arizona climbs to No. 2 behind Purdue in AP men's basketball poll

Purdue held onto the No. 1 spot in the latest Associated Press men's college basketball poll, earning 46 of 61 first-place votes after a strong undefeated start. Arizona surged to No. 2 following a key win at UConn, while Kansas dropped out of the rankings after a loss to Duke.

Purdue remained at No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll released on Monday, November 24, 2025. The Boilermakers (6-0) secured 46 of 61 first-place votes after defeating then-No. 15 Texas Tech by 30 points to win the Baha Mar Championship in the Bahamas. They also notched a win over No. 8 Alabama earlier in the season.

Arizona jumped two spots to No. 2, receiving 11 first-place votes. The Wildcats (5-0) continued their impressive run with a victory at then-No. 3 UConn last week, building on earlier wins against reigning NCAA champion Florida in Las Vegas and a ranked UCLA team in Los Angeles. Arizona entered the preseason at No. 13, rose to No. 5 after the Florida game, and reached No. 4 last week.

Houston slipped to No. 3 with four first-place votes, followed by Duke at No. 4 and UConn at No. 5. The top 10 also included Louisville, Michigan, Alabama (up from No. 11 after beating then-No. 8 Illinois), BYU, and Florida.

Michigan State made the biggest climb, rising six spots to No. 11 after defeating Kentucky in the Champions Classic. Kentucky fell seven spots to No. 19 following a 17-point loss. Illinois and Texas Tech each dropped five positions.

New entrants No. 24 Vanderbilt and No. 25 Indiana replaced Wisconsin and Kansas, who exited after losses to BYU and Duke, respectively. The Southeastern Conference led with seven ranked teams, followed by the Big Ten with six.

In total, 11 teams moved up, six fell, and six stayed in place, including five from the top 10 and No. 14 St. John’s.
