Suspected bandits ambushed a Nigerian lawmaker's convoy in Niger State, injuring several people including security personnel. The attack occurred while Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali was traveling to meet constituents. Soldiers have been deployed to the area amid rising bandit activities.
On Tuesday, gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, the member of the House of Representatives for Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency in Niger State. The incident took place around 1:00 p.m. at Kuble village along the Agwara–Babana road, as the lawmaker was en route to engage with constituents on planned developmental projects.
Sources reported that the assailants opened fire on the convoy, resulting in injuries to several individuals. The security personnel attached to Ali sustained serious injuries during the ambush. 'The member and his entourage are currently receiving treatment,' a source familiar with the incident confirmed.
In response, soldiers were quickly mobilised to the area to assist those affected and restore order. As of the report's filing, no official statements had been issued by security agencies. Efforts to contact the Niger State Police Command and the lawmaker's media aide were unsuccessful.
This attack highlights growing concerns over renewed bandit activities in parts of Niger State, especially along highways connecting remote communities in Borgu and Agwara local government areas. Residents have repeatedly urged for enhanced security presence in the region, which has seen a resurgence of armed assaults on travelers and rural dwellers. Local authorities are collaborating with military personnel to increase patrols in the affected areas and prevent further incidents.
