Bandung regent urges real actions on climate change

Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna stressed the importance of tangible and sustainable actions against climate change in a speech at the Climate Action Plan Coaching Clinic in Jakarta on February 9, 2026. He praised the event as a strategic forum to bolster local governments' commitments. Dadang highlighted the need for work plans with clear timelines, beyond mere ceremonial meetings.

Dadang Supriatna, who also serves as Chairman of the Association of Districts/Cities Caring for Sanitation (AKKOPSI), shared his views at the Hotel Aryaduta Menteng in Central Jakarta on Monday (February 9, 2026). He noted that the central government has established regulations through the Minister of Environment's Regulation, which must be implemented concretely at the local level.

"Today's event is not just a fleeting meeting, but it must produce an agreed-upon timeline for follow-up activities," Dadang stated.

He outlined strategic points for addressing climate change, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by cutting fossil fuel use and promoting renewable energy based on local potentials. For instance, areas like Kupang can utilize heat-based energy, while regions with abundant water sources like Java Island can develop water-based energy.

Dadang also emphasized energy conservation through simple habits, such as turning off lights when not in use. However, he acknowledged the challenge of educating the public amid the flood of information and entertainment content on social media.

"We need collective efforts so that society is not only focused on entertainment but also aware of the threats of climate change," he said.

He hopes the event will enhance local governments' and stakeholders' preparedness for climate change impacts while strengthening synergy in sustainable environmental programs. Additionally, Dadang added that Bandung Regency plays a strategic role as one of the largest oxygen-producing areas, so environmental preservation efforts must be continuously reinforced.
