BMKG warns of light to heavy rain in major cities

Indonesia's Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) has issued an early warning for light to heavy rain, possibly with lightning and strong winds, across major cities on Tuesday. Forecaster Diah Ayu R attributed this to atmospheric convergence stretching from northern Papua waters to various regions. Cities including Padang, Mataram, Palu, and Nabire face moderate to very heavy rain risks.

Atmospheric convergence extends from waters north of Papua, the Pacific Ocean north of Papua, North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Central Java, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, waters north of Nusa Tenggara Barat, Sulawesi Sea, Central Sulawesi, Flores Sea, Maluku, Arafuru Sea, West Papua, Papua, Papua Mountains, and South Papua. This boosts rain cloud development along these paths, according to BMKG forecaster Diah Ayu R.

Moderate to very heavy rain with thunder and strong winds is forecast for Padang in West Sumatra, Mataram in Nusa Tenggara Barat, Palu in Central Sulawesi, and Nabire in Central Papua.

Light to moderate rain is expected in Banda Aceh, Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Banjarmasin, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Denpasar, Makassar, Mamuju, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.

Other cities including Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, and Kupang will see cloudy conditions.
