Boca Juniors advanced in the Copa Argentina by defeating Gimnasia de Chivilcoy 2-0 in the round of 32, played in Salta. Adam Bareiro, making his debut for the team, scored both goals. The Xeneize now awaits the winner of Sarmiento and Tristán Suárez.
The match took place on February 24, 2026, at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta, refereed by Facundo Tello. Boca, coached by Claudio Úbeda, fielded an alternative lineup: Leandro Brey; Marcelo Weigandt, Nicolás Figal, Marco Pellegrino, Malcom Braida; Tomás Belmonte, Milton Delgado, Williams Alarcón; Ángel Romero, Adam Bareiro, and Lucas Janson.
In the first half, Boca controlled possession but faced an organized opponent. Bareiro opened the scoring in the 40th minute of the first half with a header from a Lucas Janson cross. In the second half, Miguel Merentiel replaced Romero at the start, and Bareiro extended the lead in the 12th minute with another header.
Gimnasia de Chivilcoy, from the Torneo Federal A and coached by Alberto Salvaggio, lined up with Nicolás Dormisch; Alexis Zárate, Franco Flores, Valentín Robatto, Martín Gallo; Ramiro Medina, Ezequiel Bassi, Gonzalo Martínez, Franco Cáseres; Marcos Salvaggio, and Patricio Ferreira. The home team tried to respond but created no clear danger.
After the 2-0, Boca managed the score with substitutions, including Santiago Ascacibar and Iker Zufiarre. Úbeda praised Bareiro in the post-match press conference: “Adam's arrival is positive and helps the center forwards already in the squad to compete. It doesn't put pressure on me; it's always better to have doubts about who to choose.”
Bareiro dedicated one of his goals to Juan Román Riquelme with the “Topo Gigio” gesture, as Riquelme watched from the stands. Boca advanced to the round of 16 and their next match is against Gimnasia de Mendoza on February 28.
