BRI ensures services in flood-isolated Sumatra areas via BCM protocol

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has activated its Business Continuity Management (BCM) protocol to sustain banking services in flood-affected Sumatra regions. The BRIsat satellite infrastructure ensures connectivity despite disrupted cellular networks and severed fiber optic cables. This enables rapid coordination, cash withdrawals, and aid distribution for communities.

The BRI Sibolga branch serves as a key point, remaining connected to regional and head offices via the BRIsat satellite network. This connection facilitates swift coordination with central posts and local governments, cash withdrawals for emergency needs, aid distribution, and real-time reporting of field conditions.

BRI's Risk Management Director, Mucharom, highlighted BRIsat's reliability in extreme situations as evidence of the bank's technological infrastructure readiness. He noted that BRI's own satellite forms the primary foundation for operational reliability, even when terrestrial communication lines are disrupted by natural disasters.

“BRIsat is designed to ensure BRI's network remains connected anytime and anywhere, including in emergency conditions. When general communication networks fail due to disasters, our satellite system ensures the public still has access to financial services. BRIsat symbolizes the resilience of BRI's digital infrastructure in supporting financial inclusion, maintaining service stability, and strengthening BRI's role as the people's economic connector across Indonesia,” Mucharom stated on Friday, December 5, 2025.

This success demonstrates BRI's digital infrastructure preparedness for extreme scenarios. With a network spanning over 7,000 work units nationwide, including 3T (disadvantaged, frontier, outermost) areas, BRI is committed to expanding reliable and inclusive financial access. Through a comprehensive BCM framework, essential banking services continue operating, safeguarding financial system stability and aiding economic recovery in affected regions. In emergencies, the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is activated for impacted work units and areas with network disruptions.
