BTS eyes top prize again at American Music Awards

K-pop group BTS is nominated for three awards at the 2026 American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year, with the ceremony set for Monday in Las Vegas.

BTS is competing against artists such as Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift for the top honor. The band is also nominated for Best Male K-pop Artist and Song of the Summer for its track "Swim" from the album "ARIRANG."

This marks the group's first attendance at the event in five years. BTS last appeared in 2021, when it became the first Asian act to win Artist of the Year.

Winners are decided by fan votes based on streaming, sales, radio airplay and touring data. Other K-pop acts including Ateez, Enhypen and Stray Kids are nominated in related categories.

BTS released its fifth studio album 'Arirang' on March 20, 2026, following the tracklist reveal earlier this month. The 14-track record, created during a two-month reunion in Los Angeles, explores themes of yearning and love ahead of a free comeback concert in Seoul on March 21. Leader RM's recent ankle injury will limit his performance.

'SWIM,' the lead track from BTS's fifth studio album 'ARIRANG,' has fallen to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song led digital song sales for the third straight week with 24,000 downloads sold. Meanwhile, the 14-track album has topped the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks, a historic feat for a K-pop act.
