Campetrol reports 2.7% drop in oil and gas production

Oil and gas production in Colombia fell 2.7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to a Campetrol report. The hydrocarbons sector, which includes refining, grew 0.4% over the same period.

The Campetrol report indicates that crude oil and natural gas extraction has maintained its negative trend since the third quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, refining rose 7.6% year over year and partially offset the sector's overall contraction.

The hydrocarbons sector's share of the country's gross domestic product stood at 3.49% in the first quarter, down from 3.55% recorded a year earlier.

On the international front, Campetrol noted that in April global oil supply reached 94.6 million barrels per day, an annual reduction of 9.5%, while demand hit 103.2 million barrels per day and created a deficit of 8.6 million barrels.

Colombian state oil company Ecopetrol announced profits of $2.8 trillion and revenues of $28.6 trillion for the first quarter of 2026. Earnings fell 7.7% from the same period in 2025. The Ebitda margin reached 47%.

Colombia's National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH) reported average oil production of 740.812 barrels per day (Bppd) in the first quarter of 2026. In March, it rose to 740.497 Bppd, up 5.573 Bppd from February. The gain stemmed mainly from recovery in the Meta field after resolving social blockades.

Ecopetrol will report on its operations, revenues, and EBITDA for the first quarter of 2026 on May 12 and 13. Interim president Juan Carlos Hurtado will present the figures instead of Ricardo Roa, who requested vacation and unpaid leave. The company projects declines in revenues and net profit compared to last year.

Union Asopetrol warned that Ecopetrol faces financial suffocation from its first-quarter 2026 profit drop. High taxes and peso revaluation were cited as key factors.
