Cdmx activates orange and yellow alerts for intense cold this sunday

Mexico City's Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection activated orange and yellow alerts for low temperatures in six boroughs for the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025. This is due to the passage of Cold Front number 14, affecting the northwest of the country. Temperatures of 1 to 6 °C are expected in the affected areas.

Cold Front 14 continues its path through northwest Mexico, causing a marked drop in temperatures in Mexico City. The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) activated an Orange Alert in Tlalpan, where temperatures of 1 to 3 °C are forecast from 00:00 to 08:00 on Sunday, November 16. For the boroughs Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, and Xochimilco, a Yellow Alert was issued for temperatures of 4 to 6 °C during the same period.

SGIRPC recommended dressing in at least three layers of cotton or wool clothing, using cream to hydrate the skin, avoiding sudden temperature changes, drinking plenty of water, and eating fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins A and C. Emphasis was placed on protecting children, the elderly, pregnant women, and pets, keeping them sheltered from the cold and ensuring proper ventilation when using heaters. It was also advised to stay up to date with vaccinations against Covid-19, influenza, and pneumococcus.

Nationally, the National Meteorological Service of Conagua reported wind gusts up to 80 km/h in the northwest, heavy rains in Baja California and Sonora, and possible snow or sleet in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir. In Sonora, Civil Protection alerted for snow or sleet in mountainous areas during the early hours of Sunday, recommending layers of clothing, covering the head, hands, and feet, consuming hot foods, and avoiding fires in enclosed spaces. The front's effects will decrease on Sunday, but Cold Front 15 is expected to arrive on Monday, November 17.
