Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson was arrested Thursday afternoon in Quezon City on a cyberlibel charge but posted bail and was released the same day.
The 84-year-old was taken into custody past 1 p.m. at his residence in Barangay Ugong Norte. He was brought to Police Station 12 for booking.
A warrant dated June 10, 2026, was issued by Judge Marie Gene Cecille Umali of the Regional Trial Court of Vigan City, Branch 21. It cited alleged violation of Section 4(c)(4) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Singson posted bail of 60,000 pesos and was freed immediately. Court and police records did not name the complainant or describe the statements involved. Singson last served as mayor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, from 2019 to 2022.
