Chris Sanders to direct live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel

Chris Sanders, the co-creator and voice of Stitch, will direct Disney's live-action sequel to Lilo & Stitch. The announcement comes after the first live-action film became a major box office success.

Sanders co-directed the original 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch. He is also known for his work on films such as How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods.

The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch earned the biggest Memorial Day weekend opening in box office history last year. It was Hollywood's first billion-dollar movie of the year.

Disney announced the sequel last June. Jonathan Eirich is producing the follow-up film.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Sanders' new role. He is represented by WME and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark.
