Coastal flooding submerges road in front of JIS in North Jakarta

Coastal flooding struck Jalan RE Martadinata in front of Jakarta International Stadium on Saturday morning. A joint team from BPBD and related agencies promptly addressed the 10-centimeter water pooling. Conditions in other areas like Muara Angke remained under control despite rising sea levels.

On Saturday morning, November 22, 2025, coastal flooding submerged Jalan RE Martadinata right in front of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in Papanggo subdistrict, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. Water pooling reached about 10 centimeters deep along the road at 09:41 WIB.

Vitus Dwi Indarto, head of the North Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Task Force, said BPBD North Jakarta personnel collaborated with the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department to handle the incident. "Personnel are on standby at the site to ensure the situation remains safe and controlled," Vitus stated.

Meanwhile, in the Jalan Dermaga Ujung area, RW 22, Muara Angke, Pluit subdistrict, Penjaringan district, North Jakarta, no flooding occurred until 10:19 WIB. This was despite sea levels at Pasar Ikan reaching 256 centimeters at 09:00 WIB. "At 10:17 WIB, there was no pooling in flood-prone areas for coastal flooding, such as RT 002, RT 005, and RT 010 in RW 22," Vitus added.

Vitus attributed the stable conditions to road elevation improvements and drainage repairs. Monitoring continues, with residents' activities proceeding smoothly. "Officers remain vigilant at the location for monitoring, and currently, residents' activities are running smoothly," he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Maritime Meteorology Station in Tanjung Priok issued an early warning for coastal flooding from November 18 to 26, 2025. The alert stems from maximum high tides coinciding with the new moon phase, heightening risks of inundation along North Jakarta's coast. This phenomenon also raised water levels at Pasar Ikan Gate to Danger/Alert 1 status at 09:00 WIB, causing pooling in parts of DKI Jakarta.
