A Madrid court has postponed the eviction of 82-year-old Francisca López Ruiz, scheduled for Wednesday in the La Latina neighborhood. The suspension stems from the lack of a social report requested from the city council.
The civil section of Instance Court number 36 provisionally suspended the eviction on Tuesday after noting that the city council had not sent the report on the neighbor's vulnerability. Paquita, who has Parkinson's and the highest degree of dependency, has lived since 1998 on Santa Ana Street with her 47-year-old son.
Neighbors and activists from La Chispera and the Tenants' Union gathered on Wednesday outside the building to block the eviction. The owner, Tolesanta SL, notified in 2023 the end of the 1,150-euro monthly rental contract to convert the home into tourist use.
The city council states that the family is not in economic vulnerability and rejected offered alternatives. Paquita asked the council to have “a little heart” and thanked the neighborhood support. The court has given ten days to receive the report.
