Couto advances in Brasília negotiations for Rio to join PROPAG

Rio de Janeiro's acting governor Ricardo Couto met with the finance minister in Brasília on Monday to discuss the state's adhesion to Propag.

Couto met with minister Dario Durigan following President Lula's May announcement that Rio would exit the Fiscal Recovery Regime. The state seeks to migrate to PROPAG, which offers 30 years to settle the debt exceeding R$ 200 billion with the Union. The governor stated that Durigan was favorable to the negotiations. He highlighted spending containment in the state and the possibility of reducing monthly debt payments. Couto also mentioned the R$ 20 billion credit with Petrobras for ICMS debts, which could advance payments by three years. Additionally, the state expects to recover about R$ 1.4 billion from the more than R$ 3 billion invested by Rioprevidência in Banco Master through legal actions.
