Dancing robot breaks dishes at California hot pot restaurant

A humanoid robot employed at a Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant in Cupertino, California, went into a dance frenzy, breaking dishes and requiring staff intervention. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media. The restaurant stated the robot was performing as programmed and not malfunctioning.

The incident occurred at Haidilao Hot Pot in Cupertino, involving a robot from AGiBot, a company that produces concierge humanoid robots such as the X2 model capable of breakdancing. According to videos shared across social media, the aproned robot began dancing energetically, waving its arms and getting too close to customers and dishware, which led to broken dishes. Laughing workers attempted to restrain the robot to prevent further damage to property or the dining atmosphere. No injuries were reported among staff or customers. The restaurant chain told NBC News that the robot was operating within its programming and was not out of control. A representative explained: > In this case, the robot was brought closer to a dining table at a guest's request, which is not its typical operating setting. The limited space affected its movement during the performance. Representatives from Haidilao and AGiBot did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CNET. It remains unclear if the robot continues to work at the restaurant.
