Death of Tello Higuera Jr., vocalist of Los Incomparables de Tijuana, under investigation

Vocalist Tello Higuera Jr., of Los Incomparables de Tijuana, was found dead after being presumably deprived of his liberty during an event in Baja California. The band announced his death with deep sorrow, while authorities keep the investigation open without confirming details. A murder is presumed, but the motive remains unknown.

Los Incomparables de Tijuana announced the death of their vocalist Tello Higuera Jr. through an Instagram message on Friday, October 24. “With a broken heart and immeasurable sadness, Los Incomparables de Tijuana deeply regret having to communicate the passing of our dear companion Tello Higuera Jr.”, the group wrote. They highlighted his passion and talent, stating that he leaves “a void that can never be filled in our lives and in the music scene”.

According to unofficial reports, the incident occurred during the band's performance at a baptism in the Aztlán neighborhood, Playas de Rosarito municipality. Armed men tied up the musicians upon arrival at the event but only took Tello. The other members escaped and alerted authorities. The body was found on Saturday, October 25, in the La Gloria neighborhood, Tijuana, Baja California.

The Baja California State Attorney General's Office (FGEBC) has not confirmed the deprivation of liberty or the murder, though it has not denied it either. José Avilés Amezcua, Tijuana's security secretary, told El Financiero that they are investigating the discovery of a body in La Gloria without confirming it is the artist's, and refrained from providing more details. The FGEBC is expected to release additional information soon. Organized crime involvement is not ruled out, but authorities will determine the motive.

Eleuterio Higuera Acosta Jr., known as Tello, was the son of the band's founder, Tello Higuera. Some reports claim he was the nephew of Mario Quintero, leader of Los Tucanes de Tijuana, though this has not been proven. He was also a vocalist and accordionist in Los Retoños de Tijuana, with hits like ‘El De las 2 Letras’, ‘Ubícate’, and ‘Los 90’s’. On October 14, the band thanked a 'From Tijuana to the World' recognition.
