Delhi to add 2,800 electric buses by 2028

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that 2,800 new electric buses will join Delhi's fleet by August 2028 under the PM e-Drive Scheme, raising total strength to 14,000.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on Saturday that the buses will be air-conditioned and low-floor models. Half will measure 12 metres and the other half 9 metres for use on narrower roads and in rural areas.

Financial support under the scheme includes up to ₹35 lakh per 12-metre bus and ₹25 lakh per 9-metre bus. The Delhi government had submitted its requirements to Convergence Energy Services Limited last year and later revised them for equal numbers of each size.

The buses will operate under the Gross Cost Contract model by the Delhi Transport Corporation for 12 years. A nationwide bidding process is planned to secure competitive rates.
